One before, one after

The first promise of the Internet was that, beyond being able to communicate with people all over your town, state, and country, you could communicate with people all over the world. This was something I was really into but never really got to beyond a couple people in England, Australia, and Canada.

Language was a barrier, so I never really had friends in China or something like that - the promise of the Internet.

But, I think flickr.com is exactly the type of site that gets to this point.

A lot of the pictures I look at will have descriptions in all kinds of languages, and I can favorite ones I like even if I don't know what they say and have a link to go further on some day with someone somewhere.
